Although R.A. Voss and I attended school together many years ago I did not allow that to sway my review. This is a wonderfully written book that makes you feel like you are right there with her on her travels, trials and tribulations. There were parts of the book that brought back many memories of my childhood and for that I thank R.A. Voss for taking me along on those old back roads of the area where we grew up. In her collection of essays, “We Never Travel Alone”, R.A Voss deftly weaves threads of place and time. Through historical research, family stories, observations, and memories, she offers us a unique glimpse of places she has lived and visited. Her voice is strong as she walks the German countryside that her great-great-grandfather hailed from and as she tries to see into the past through his eyes. The touching story of “Buttermilk Road” takes us back in time to a memory from her childhood and then fast-forwards 50 years to another, sadder trip down Buttermilk Road.
Who we are and what we have experienced always travels with us and colors our view of the world. With keen curiosity and deep introspection, Voss takes the reader along with her and proves to be a fine traveling companion.

Excellent factual yarn, well crafted cover to cover, leads reader with a natural flow to turn page. Travelers and non will delight in these open hearted well touching communicated essays.
